Track pregnancies from conception to calving – with expected dates, dry-off periods, and newborn calf details.
Overview
Pregnancy records follow a female animal from conception (natural mating or AI) through pregnancy confirmation, dry-off period, calving, and lactation restart. The system calculates expected calving date based on gestation period (280 days for cows, 310 for buffaloes).
When calving is recorded, the animal’s status returns to Active/Milking and lactation number updates.
How It Works
- Go to Dairy → Animal Health → Pregnancies & Calvings. Only female animals can have pregnancy records.
- Workflow: Pregnant → Dry Period → Calved (or Aborted/Failed).
Step-by-Step Guide
- Go to Pregnancies & Calvings and click Create.
- Select the female Animal and enter Conception / AI Date.
- Set Insemination Type (Natural, AI, or Embryo Transfer) and Sire if known.
- Click Confirm Pregnancy after vet confirmation – animal status changes to Pregnant.
- Before calving, click Set Dry to record dry-off date.
- After calving, click Record Calving – enter outcome, calf details, and birth weight.

Tips
- Dry off 60 days before expected calving: Standard practice – record the dry-off date so milk collection stops for that animal.
- Register the calf as a new animal: After calving, create a new animal record for the calf and link mother as Dam.
Common Mistakes
- Not confirming pregnancy – Use Confirm Pregnancy so the animal status shows Pregnant on the Dashboard.
- Recording calving before conception date – Calving date cannot be before conception date.
