See Odoo exactly as another person does – the safest way to verify a profile before go-live.
Overview
Test as User switches your session to an internal user so you experience their menus, buttons, and restrictions. A yellow banner reminds you that you are in test mode, with an Exit Test Mode control to return.
This avoids the classic mistake of “it looks fine for me” while you are an Administrator whom ACS never restricts.
How It Works
From a profile (or the test wizard), choose a user who already has the profile assigned (or will have it). Start Test opens Odoo as that user. Exit restores your manager session.
A note can be logged on the profile for audit that a test was performed.
Step-by-Step Guide
- Assign your test person to the Access Profile and save.
- On the profile, click Test as User.
- Select the User (active internal user) and confirm Start Test.
- Walk through their real tasks: open menus, try create/edit, check fields and buttons.
- Click Exit Test Mode on the banner when finished.
- Adjust the profile and repeat until the experience matches the business agreement.

Field Explanations
Each field from the table above is explained in more detail here.
Profile
Helps keep an audit trail of testing activity on that profile’s chatter.
User
Must be an active internal user. Use a dedicated test account when possible.
Start Test
Only continue if you are ready to see their restricted UI.
Exit Test Mode
Always exit before making admin configuration changes as yourself.
Tips
- Keep a dedicated “Test Sales”, “Test Warehouse” user for rehearsals.
- Use a written checklist of tasks the role must perform.
- Test both what should be blocked and what must still work.
Common mistakes
- Testing while still in an Administrator account without Test as User – you will see no ACS limits.
- Forgetting to Exit Test Mode and then editing profiles as the wrong person.
- Using a portal user in this wizard – it is meant for internal users.
