Getting Started

Updated 13 July 2026

Welcome! This guide walks you through every step needed to download, install, and activate the WooCommerce App plugin on your WordPress website. Even if you have never installed a plugin before, you can follow these steps easily – written in plain, simple language just for you.

Required Plugin – WooCommerce

Before installing the WooCommerce App plugin, you must first have WooCommerce installed and active on your WordPress site. This plugin will not work without WooCommerce.

WooCommerce is the world’s most popular free eCommerce plugin for WordPress. It turns your website into a fully functional online store. The WooCommerce App plugin builds on top of WooCommerce to add a fast, mobile-first shopping experience at yoursite.com/app.

Without WooCommerce, this plugin cannot run. If you try to activate WooCommerce App without WooCommerce installed, you will see a warning message and the plugin will not work.

How to Install WooCommerce First

Already have WooCommerce? Great – you are ready to proceed to Step 1 below.

Step 1 – Download the Latest Copy of the Plugin

The first thing you need to do is get the plugin file onto your computer. You will download a ZIP file – think of it like downloading any document from the internet and saving it to your desktop.

Step 2 – Upload the Plugin to Your Website

Now you need to send that ZIP file from your computer to your WordPress website. This is done directly from inside your WordPress admin – no extra software needed.

Step 3 – Activate the Plugin

Installing a plugin is not enough on its own – you must also activate it. Think of it like installing an app on your phone and then opening it for the first time to turn it on.

WordPress does not need a restart. The plugin activates instantly – your store stays online the whole time. No service restart, no downtime.

Step 4 – No Special Mode Required

WordPress does not require you to turn on any “Developer Mode” or “Debug Mode” to use this plugin. It works immediately after activation for all regular store tasks.

Good to know: WordPress Debug Mode is only needed by developers when fixing technical errors. As a store owner, you do not need it. This step requires no action from you – simply continue to Step 5.

Step 5 – Find the Plugin in Your Admin Menu

After activation, the WooCommerce App plugin adds its own settings pages inside the WooCommerce menu in your WordPress admin – right alongside other WooCommerce tools like Orders and Products.

Where to look: In the WordPress admin left sidebar, click on WooCommerce. In the sub-menu that appears, you will find “App” and “App settings” – these are the WooCommerce App plugin’s settings pages.

Step 6 – Activate the /app URL (Flush Permalinks)

After the plugin activates, you need to do one small technical step to make the /app URL work on your website. This is called “flushing permalinks” – it simply tells WordPress about the new /app address the plugin created.

If /app shows a 404 error, go to Settings → Permalinks and click Save Changes again. This is the most common fix and solves the issue almost every time.

Step 7 – Your App is Ready with Default Settings

As soon as the plugin is active and permalinks are flushed, your mobile store is live and working with a set of sensible default settings. No extra configuration is needed to see it running.

All default settings can be customized using the App settings under WooCommerce. See the following chapters for detailed guides on each setting area.

Step 8 – Check User Access & Permissions

By default, the Administrator role has full access to all WooCommerce App settings. If you have team members (such as a Shop Manager) who also need to manage the app settings, make sure they have the right WordPress role.

Be careful with Administrator access. Only give Administrator role to people you fully trust – it gives complete control over your website. Shop Manager is safer for most team members.

Step 9 – Refresh & Verify Everything Works

The final step is to refresh your browser and confirm that everything is set up correctly. This takes less than two minutes and ensures your mobile store is working perfectly before you share it with customers.
