Create a copy of any dashboard – with all its widgets – and customise it for another team or purpose.
Overview
Duplicate creates an exact copy of a dashboard including every widget, layout position, colour, and setting. The copy is named “Original Name (copy)” and opens immediately so you can start editing. The original dashboard is never changed.
Duplicating is the fastest way to create variations – for example, copy the company-wide Sales dashboard and adjust it for the EMEA team, or copy a sample dashboard before customising it.
How It Works
When you click Duplicate on a dashboard form, Odoo creates a new dashboard record and copies every widget (item) linked to it. Widget positions on the grid, chart types, data sources, and filters are all preserved. The new dashboard gets its own name and appears in the Overview list as a separate entry.
Duplicate works within the same Odoo database. To move a dashboard to a different database, use Export JSON and Import Dashboard instead (see Export, Import & Email).
Step-by-Step Guide
Open the Dashboard You Want to Copy
- Go to Advance Dashboard → Overview and click the dashboard row (not Open Dashboard – open the form).
Click Duplicate
- In the header buttons at the top of the form, click Duplicate. This requires Manager permission.
Review the Copy
- The system creates a new dashboard named “Your Dashboard (copy)” and opens it live automatically.
Rename the Copy
- Go back to the dashboard form (Overview → click the new row). Change the name to something meaningful, e.g., “Sales – EMEA Team”.
Adjust Settings (Optional)
- Change the layout template, date filter, access rights, or company if needed.
Edit Widgets (Optional)
- Open the Items tab to tweak individual widgets – change filters, rename tiles, or remove widgets you do not need.
Set Access Rights
- If the copy is for a specific team, update Allowed Groups or Allowed Users on the form.
Share with Your Team
- Tell the right people the new dashboard name so they can find it in Overview.

Keep original demo as reference |
Field Explanations
Duplicate
Header button on the dashboard form. Creates a full copy in one step and opens the new dashboard live. Only visible to users with Manager permission.
Export JSON
Downloads the dashboard layout as a file. Use when you need a backup or want to move the design to a different Odoo server. Does not duplicate within the same database as quickly as the Duplicate button.
Import JSON
Uploads a previously exported dashboard file. Used for cross-database sharing or restoring from backup – not for quick copies within one system.
New Name
The copy is automatically named with “(copy)” appended. Rename it immediately so your team can find it easily in the Overview list.
Widgets Copied
Every widget is duplicated with the same type, data source, filters, colours, and grid position (row, column, width, height). You do not need to rebuild widgets from scratch.
Original Unchanged
Duplicating never alters the source dashboard. You can safely customise the copy while keeping the original as a template or reference.
Access Rights
The copy inherits Allowed Groups and Allowed Users from the original. Update these if the copy is meant for a different audience.
Sample Dashboards
When working with imported demo dashboards, always duplicate before editing. This preserves the original sample so you can refer back to it or create more variations later.
Tips
- Duplicate sample dashboards before customising – keep the original as a reference.
- Use duplicate + rename + change access rights to create team-specific dashboards from one master template.
- After duplicating, open the Items tab and review widget filters – small tweaks per team save time vs building from scratch.
- For branch offices on separate Odoo databases, duplicate within HQ for testing, then Export JSON to send the final version.
- Create a “Template” dashboard once, duplicate it monthly for recurring report layouts.
Common Mistakes
- Editing the original instead of duplicating – Always duplicate sample or shared dashboards before making changes others rely on.
- Forgetting to rename the copy – Multiple dashboards named “(copy)” are hard to find. Rename immediately.
- Not updating access rights on the copy – The copy may inherit permissions meant for the original team. Review Allowed Groups and Users.
- Using Export/Import for a simple copy – Duplicate is faster for copies within the same database. Reserve export/import for different servers.
- Expecting duplicate to copy business data – Only the dashboard design is copied. Data comes live from your Odoo database on both dashboards.
