Overview
Favorites (sometimes labeled “saved searches”) remember a name and the search text you use often, plus the important switches like match style, archived records, creation dates, and whether you were focused on one area. They appear inside the bar’s favorites panel so you can re-run a hunt in one click.
Why it matters: weekly status checks, month-end reviews, and customer callbacks become repeatable without retyping the same string five times a day.
How it works
You can build favorites directly from the bar when you save the current search, or you can maintain them as a neat table inside your user preferences. Odoo keeps favorites per user. You may mark exactly one favorite as “apply when the bar opens” so your standard query loads automatically the next time you start Odoo-handy for roles that always begin with the same filter.
Step-by-step guide
- Set up the bar the way you like: text, area, match mode, dates, and filters.
- Open the favorites panel in the bar and choose Save current search (wording may vary).
- Give it a clear name, such as “Open quotes – Acme”.
- Confirm; the favorite should appear in the list immediately.
- Optional: in preferences, tick Apply when bar opens on one favorite to make it your automatic starter (only one at a time).
- Use the duplicate icon in preferences when you want a variation without losing the original.

Choose language the whole shift understands-future you will thank present you.
Search text
Must be at least two characters long so Odoo does not save meaningless favorites by accident.
Model
When filled, the favorite jumps straight into that area; when empty, it repeats a broad search across the enabled pool.

Mirrors the precision choices from the filter menu.
Include archived / Created from / Created to
Freeze the same context you need every Monday morning.
Apply when bar opens
Turning this on for a second favorite automatically clears the flag from the previous default-only one default is allowed.
Tips
- Duplicate a favorite before experimenting with tighter match modes.
- Prefix names with a team code (“CS – …”) when a profile is shared informally.
- Clear recent searches separately if suggestions feel crowded-see the preferences chapter.
Common mistakes
- Saving a favorite without search text. Odoo blocks this to avoid empty shortcuts cluttering the list.
- Expecting view filters to live inside the favorite row. Advanced view filters are remembered separately when you enable “remember filter options” in preferences-see Make the bar feel right for you.
